Drill is an interactive part in Scrap Mechanic.
Overview[]
The Drill is used to harvest Metal Blocks and Scrap Stone Blocks from square rocks found in the world.
This is done by mounting the drill on a Bearing, powering the bearing using a Gas or Electric engine. It must be touching the square rock to break it, which if not placed low enough can be lowered using a Piston. A single bearing powered by a Controller will not spin fast enough to break harvestables, but several bearings can be mounted in a row with blocks separating them, and all rotated by the same controller at maximum speed. This is powerful enough to break square rocks, which can be used to save gas or batteries.
This will break a part of the square rock off, which needs to be hit with the Sledgehammer many times or further broken down by the drill, splitting it into multiple pieces, then refined into the Metal Block 1 and Scrap Stone Blocks.
Totebots and Haybots will back away from nearby spinning Drills.
Note that the drill does not need to be attached directly to a bearing to break square rocks, but can be attached to any block or part that is spinning thanks to a bearing. It also does not need to be centered on the rotation axis, thus covering a larger area. However, this offset will often cause a vehicle to wobble, rendering it impractical.
Obtaining[]
The Drill can be traded for 4 Redbeet Crates.
