According to the backstory, the Farmbots are robots built to tend the farms on an agricultural planet, the setting of the game. At some point before the player character arrives, something goes wrong with the Farmbots, causing them to attack humans and wocs on sight (and take over the radio station, for some reason).

Farmbots of unclear true origin, Whipbots (Also called totebots) are spider-like crawlers that are fairly creepy Farmbots of unknown tier. They occasionally drop Totebot Heads upon death, which create noises akin to music. Whipbot files were already present in-game before implementation they were meant to be part of the game from the beginning.

A recent twitter post classified them as small, playful robots that follow the player, annoying and dealing 15 damage per whip.

Haybots
Introduced in Devblog 18 as the 'zombies of Scrap Mechanic', Haybots are a common enemy the player encounters in wheat fields and abandoned buildings. They are tall, thin orange robots that appear deranged with their erratic movement and glowing red eyes. Originally built for rolling and collecting hay, they are now determined to kill any living thing they see, including the player. They move faster than the player and have 100 hp and 2 attacks, the poke and swing. the poke is a quick jabbing attack that does 20 damage with considerable knock back, the swing is slower with less knock back but deals 30 damage. The Haybots can easily overwhelm and kill you if you are not prepared with a spud gun.

Haybots can be temporarily stunned with water, either using a Water Bucket, or by spraying them with a Water Cannon. Stunning deals no damage, it only temporarily puts them into a ragdoll state (similar to when they're hit with a fast-moving object), where they can be hit without fighting back. Despite being disabled, they still make hurt sounds when damaged. The stun duration varies, but one water bucket usually disables the bot for long enough to deal 5 Sledge Hammer hits. Haybots won't follow the player into water, and will instead stand as close as possible on the shore, ready to attack when the player gets back in range. If a Haybot is stunned and somehow ends up floating into deeper water where it won't be able to stand otherwise, it will self-destruct when the stun ends.

Combat tips: Haybots can be dispatched individually or in small groups without taking damage, but will quickly overwhelm you in large numbers if you aren't prepared. Water can stun one temporarily, but since it does no damage, it's nearly useless against larger groups. An effective method for dealing with them is walking backwards while swinging the hammer, jumping whenever the Haybot gets too close/is about to attack. This usually looks like 1-2-2, as in one hit, jump, two hits, jump, two hits. When in large groups, they can push each other forwards, causing the ones in front to hit you anyway, so be wary of fighting more than 3 or 4 at a time.

To destroy them it takes 5 hits with the Sledge Hammer, they drop Circuit Boards, Component Kits or Scrap Metal, which can be refined into Scrap Metal Blocks

Tapebots
Tapebots were originally announced in Devblog 16, appearing as the main antagonists and enemies the player would encounter in the Warehouses. They shoot rolls of tape at the player if they enter a warehouse, firing one every few seconds. Each tape projectile deals 55 damage, enough to kill a player in two hits. They also appear to have rather precise aim tracking, and are able to hit far-away players even when they're moving sideways quickly. Fighting them with a Sledge Hammer is not a viable option, the only safe ways to deal with them are to hit them first with a Spudgun, drive by in an armored vehicle (the tapes will still destroy weaker blocks easily though), or to aim at them with vehicle-mounted guns.

They used to roll and store tape in the warehouses. Now, however, they have gone haywire and taped the entire warehouse up. They are apparently among the more difficult Farmbot types, as the devs have mentioned that the Tapebots are "very dangerous and the players will need to be tactical, creative and show quick reflexes in order to deal with them".

There is also a red variant only found on the 3rd floors of warehouses that shoot explosive projectiles, otherwise they act the same as regular Tapebots dying instantly with a headshot. There is not much info on this variant due to their hard to reach location.

'Scrapbots' are farmbots active in the Scrapyard biome. They are huge robots that collect and pile up the scrap found in the biome. They might be dangerous for the player.

We are yet to see an implementation of the scrap yard biome, and there is reason to believe that this robot was conceptually changed to become the large red Scrapbot of the same name.

Trivia
*Farmbots were originally named "Agribots", as seen in earlier devblogs. The name is a portmanteau of "agriculture" and "robot".

*Farmbots appeared with functional AI in the debut trailer and their models are in the Beta files. This is because, like other Survival features, they are present in an incomplete form in a development branch of the game.
