World Builder is an editor in Scrap Mechanic.

Overview[ | ]

The World Builder is a tool to create new world types. It uses a set of pre-made tiles and any tiles made with the Tile Builder. Currently, it can only create Creative Mode worlds.

Usage[ | ]

The World Builder is accessed by selecting Creative Mode, then pressing the World Builder button on the right.

When opening the World Builder, the user is prompted to load a world or create a new one.

The viewport can be zoomed in and out with the scrollwheel and rotated by holding down the right mouse button. The WASD keys move the camera forward, left, right, and backward.

In the top right corner, there are two menus: File and Editor.

File Menu[ | ]

  • New World
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+N
    • Opens a world size selection menu. After choosing a size, a new world is created.
    • Can also be accessed through the Open World File menu.
  • Open World File
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+O
    • Opens the world file selection menu, the same one that appears automatically when opening the World Builder.
  • Save
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+S
    • Saves the current world file.
  • Save As
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+Shift+S
    • Opens the world file saving menu.
  • Delete World
    • Non-functional, always grayed out.
  • Exit
    • Exits the World Builder, returning to the main menu.

Editor Menu[ | ]

  • Free Placement
    • Controls if tiles are allowed to intersect with each other.
  • High Quality
    • Controls if high-detail models are shown in the editor.

Toolbar[ | ]

A tool bar is on the top of the screen. Each tool is used by left-clicking on the ground or a tile.

  • Place tiles
    • Hotkey: B
  • Erase tiles
    • Hotkey: E
    • Erases any tiles the cursor is touching.
  • Move tiles
    • Hotkey: C
    • Click and drag to move a tile.
  • Rotate tiles
    • Hotkey: R
  • Copy tiles
    • Hotkey: I
  • Paint ground
    • Hotkey: G
    • Hold to paint the ground with the selected biome.
    • Painted tiles can be overwritten by placed tiles, but only the Clear setting can remove painted tiles.
    • The icon to the right cycles between a 64, 128, and 256 sized brush.

Tile Browser[ | ]

Available tiles are shown at the bottom of the screen. Clicking on "Options" opens the Filters menu, which allows the user to filter tiles by size and data path. Small tiles are 64x64, Medium tiles are 128x128, Large tiles are 256x256, and XL (Extra Large) tiles are 512x512. The data path options are Creative, Survival (currently empty), and User.

Hovering over a tile shows additional information, such as its size, name, file path, and icon file path.

In the top right corner, there are a set of buttons:

  • Undo
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+Z
  • Redo
    • Hotkey: Ctrl+Shift+Z
  • Share the world on Steam Workshop
    • Uploads the world to the Steam Workshop.
    • Backing out of the confirmation still creates an empty, hidden workshop item!
  • Exit
    • Exits the World Builder, returning to the main menu.

Trivia[ | ]

  • The World Builder's UI was unchanged from 0.4.0 until 0.6.0. During that time, it still used the old UI style from Beta versions prior to 0.4.0.
